Braids worn high or low

Throughout 2016, we’ve seen the humble braid be reinvented in multiple ways. What used to be an everyday look has now become more glamorous.

One of our favourite braided looks is the braid crown. Simple, yet elegant; this style can easily be worn to a more formal occasion like a black tie event. To make the braid seem larger, gently pull apart each section of the braid.

Another braided style that works well for party season is the sleek ponytail braid. To accomplish this look, the hair is slicked back into a low ponytail, tied at the nape of the neck, and then tightly braided to the ends of the hair. This style works well for all types of occasions and compliments every kind of outfit – even an ugly Christmas sweater.

Old Hollywood glamour - 1920’s waves

This Gatsby-inspired hairstyle is the epitome of fun and flirty. The modern take on this classic style showcases relaxed waves, which can also be swept to the side and pinned in place. Pair this 1920s look with a glittery party dress and some killer accessories, like a retro hair clip, and you’ll be the star of the show!

Messy topknot or high bun

Depending on the look you’re trying to achieve, you could try a variation of the year’s hottest trends: the bun. The messy topknot and high bun are very different looks, so you can choose the one that best suits the occasion.

In either case, hair is gathered and pulled upwards to the top of the head, as if you’re creating a high ponytail. For a sleek high bun, hair should be combed back tightly (but not uncomfortably) and the bun is neatly tucked in and pinned so as to give a well put-together look. Alternatively, when creating the messy topknot, hair is gathered more loosely and twisted into place, creating a carefree, ready-for-anything look.
